Zoom is Wally West's Reverse Flash named Hunter Zolomon. Zoom and Professor Zoom are different reverse flashes. The adversarial relationship escalated over a number of years to the point where Thawne was singularly fixated on Flash and interpretations thereafter filled in backstory further drawing on him being a lunatic. ![]() Flash was arrested after the incident and put on trial. ![]() This set off a chain of events that lead to Flash killing Thawne some time after in order to prevent him from killing his fiancee, Fiona Webb. One of the most significant plot turns in the history of Flash was when Thawne confronted Iris to choose him over Barry. The confrontations became a bit more personal in nature and a smitten Reverse Flash actually attempted to steal Iris allen from him.Ī bit spoilery from here if you can call it that 30/40 years later. Initially he used the powers to commit petty crimes or steal rare artifacts and he was more of a mischievous nuisance with a touch of competitive nature the first few times he came into conflict with the Flash. It's been a while since I've read the issues but to my recollection Thawne was a less than scrupulous scientist that was fascinated with the past and found (or perhaps even stole) one of Flash's original costumes to harness "residual energy" to gain super speed himself (the speed force was not part of the mythology at that time). From the silver age to the final issue of Barry Allen's run in the 80's Professor Zoom gradually became more and more antagonistic.
